Over the past twenty years I have led workshops, trainings, and given presentations on topics ranging from youth development, staff management and leadership. This module supports participants in exploring how to build positive, meaningful relationship with children and youth, in order to plan programs that best meet their needs and support the development of social-emotional skills and character building.

This workshop will consist of key points that build positive youth development, strengthen active listening, create youth engagement and enhance ways to acknowledge others. Within this experience, participants will have the opportunity to use various learning styles in order to strengthen the above skills. The topics covered within this training session will enhance the participants ability to design and implement lessons and programming that is engaging for all youth. The main theme of this workshop is to encourage and give the skills for all staff to become the change that they want to see in the world.

This training will teach you the concepts behind strength-based strategies and some practical lessons on how to incorporate them into your afterschool program and life. Much of society’s approaches to dealing with higher risk youth and disengaged families is through a lens of their weaknesses or problems that need to be “fixed.” This training will provide participants with 3 simple steps to the Strength-based approach

To gain greater confidence in guiding behavior, staff must look at their personal actions and reactions to the behaviors of the children and youth with whom they work. This helps build social-emotional skills in both staff and children and youth.

Participants will gain skills for effective supervision of children/ youth by examining expected outcomes of working with children/youth, using tools for communicating expectations and applying techniques for dealing with problem behaviors.
